A Potted History

The Crossroads Care scheme began in 1975 following the popular television soap 'Crossroads.' There was a character called Sandy who was a wheelchair user and cared for by Meg. At the time ITV received many letters from carers saying that the portrayal of the character and the role of the carer was inaccurate, despite being pleased that somebody with difficulties was starring on the programme. As a result, the television production team donated £10,000 to research the amount of carers out there, as well as what could be done to support them. Shortly after, the Crossroads Care scheme was born.

Public Benefit

The services provided by Forest of Dean Crossroads - Caring for Carers are open to all carers throughout the Forest of Dean and Herefordshire, irrespective of an individual's race, religion, sexuality or financial status. We also recognise that we serve a rural area and seek to work with other organisations and individuals to help clients to access our services from less accessible areas.

Testimonials

"This has been a wonderful service for two reasons. The first is that my husband gets one to one attention and he has gained a lot of trust and rapport with the girls. The second is that I can pursue my hobby and have a complete break away from the house."

"We hugely appreciate the support of Crossroads Care and their team but especially the Support Worker attending our community farm, who often provides care support at the farm - always cheerful, never makes a drama about anything, has time for everyone but also knows exactly when to step in and when to step back - to enable people to use the skills they still have and always with the utmost respect and dignity. She is an absolute credit to Crossroads Care and epitomises what all caring services should aspire to. With thanks, Director Hereford Community Farm. "

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the care and help you have given to my mother over the last 6 years. The services provided were of exceptional quality and I could not have managed to keep her at home all this time without your help."

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank you sincerely for the care and compassion that your team gave to my wife during what was a very difficult time for her. The carers were very professional, caring so much for my wife with that personal touch that not only helped her, but me also."

"A big thank you for our super Pamper Day. We all had excellent treatments, lovely lunch and plenty of drinks, plus it was lovely to sit and chat with a lovely group. Thank you for all your hard work."

"I have taken the house off the market as I will not get the care and support for my husband anywhere else like he gets here with you at Crossroads."

"I am really impressed with the professionalism and organisation. Everyone seems to have a nice time."

"No other care company compares to Crossroads Care, you are the kindest organisation out there and we would definitely recommend your services."
